DEC 2017 CHALLENGE-Any Medium Contest Entry
This pallet knife oil on canvas painting was started, maybe, a couple years ago. After seeing a picture on this site I was inspired to do another small series. While waiting for the skies to dry on those canvases it suddenly hit me what I needed to do to finish this aspen series. Happens like that sometimes. I think the longest I took to finish a painting was seven years. It took me that long to resolve the problems I had set for myself. A few paintings have been finished in less than an hour. The outlook for finishing this aspen series look dismal. Sometimes I have to throw the paintings away. Thought about that on this series until it just hit me like a bolt of lightening. I finished five of these in one day. You see, over that two year period I had learned how I wanted the mountain shadows to look and how to work the pallet knife to get the textures I wanted and how to overlay the paint colors. I believe this is painting number three. I finished this painting on December 23rd, 2017.
Post Type: Traditional Art
Mixed Media: None | This is a pallet knife oil on canvas painting of one of the aspen groves in the mountains above Santa Fe, NM. Every season artists can be found alongside the road or in the rest stops painting these groves. I am no exception. The experience is heart fulfilling trying to capture the majestic presence of these groves.
