The beauty and grace of Barn Owls can be mesmerizing. Their faces are heart shaped. This is not for beauty but to help with hearing. 90% of hunting is done with sound and not sight. The ears are just behind the eyes and the shape of the head acts as a amplifier. Their feathers are fine, light and very unique. They are not waterproof as most other birds. For this fact, the barn owl can not fly in the rain to get food. It must always predict the weather on their own or they and babies could die. The fine, light weightness of the feathers allows this majestic beauty to fly and glide almost silently.
