'Mud Season' at my Place

.....Mile of Mud #1

In Vermont we have an extra season. Known as 'Mud Season' it is the time when all the snow begins to melt and all the dirt roads 'break up' Roads 'breaking up' is the polite way to put what happens....lol The roads 'going to hell' is much more appropriate.

It is not so much the snow melting that causes the problem as it is the frost going out of the road. Rocks and boulders show up where there were none before as the roads literally push the frost from deep within up and out.....and, of course, there's the thick, oozing mud. Schools close for a 10 day 'spring break' as buses cannot travel the miles of back roads to pick students up.

I live off a dirt road....and my mile long 'driveway' is also dirt. Do a lot of walking this time of year as driving on my driveway is just about impossible. The image here shows a section of my road just past my gardens. This is the good section! Only thing good about mud season is the fact the spring comes next.....the grass gets green and my flowers FINALLY begin to blossom.
