I took a really cool photo at the zoo of this lizard and decided to draw it for my art class. I love doing reptiles because of their instinctive, intense expressions.
How'd I do it? Well, I blended in a smooth base for the body, and then went in with light pencil scribbles all over to create light shadows. After that, I erased in scribbles to add highlights, and continued this back and forth technique until it looked like coarse, lizard skin.
The background was done by rubbing cloth that had the pencil residue on it, and the rocks were done by durning the led on its broad side and lightly stroking to pick up the texture of the paper. The last thing I did was add in the dark shadows. They are really what makes a drawing stand out. It took about 4 hours. I was done with it in 2 days.
