Man?s Best Friend Contest Entry
Throughout times of conflict in war-torn countries, disasters such as earthquakes, famine, and weather-related such as flooding man?s best friend or friends have provided great assistance in recovery efforts and/or locating dangerous substance thus also providing protection during these traumatic times. In this novel, the protagonists, Alexander and his rescue- and war-trained Doberman, Martin and Luther, head a rescue mission when terrorist bombings decimate three houses of worship in Palm Bach, Florida. They also warn their owner of pending danger several times. Such intelligent and thoughtful dogs are indeed man?s and woman?s best friend. I drew and painted (using oil over acrylic, colored pencils and finished it freehanded in Photoshop) the two characters from a reference picture of the dogs, courtesy of the larger dog?s owner, Rebecca Fran Wood, and the soldier mostly from memory/imagination and a son's face and from a contemporary beret image. The Jr. dog was owned by my son and passed away sadly with cancer. Our family member dogs are loved just as they love. Hope you enjoy this work which took numerous hours of work dedicated to our best friends, this soldier?s two best friends.
