Photographed on Inner Farne in the Farne Islands, Northumberland UK. This is the one island you can land on in the Farnes and get a really close look at the thousands of seabirds that nest there each year. The arctic Terns lay their eggs right beside the paths and it's advised to wear a hat when visiting the island, as the fearless parents are prone to dive bombing the visitors as they defend their territory and their young - I always love seeing the tourists who think they somehow know better and turn up hatless - those beaks are very pointed and very sharp! Lol Apparently as adults they make the longest migration of any other bird, breeding in the southerly reaches of the Arctic and wintering in the Antarctic, making it's migration round trip 60,000 to 82,000 km (roughly 37,000 to 51,000 miles)!!
