Fantastic capture! Beautifully exposed and the focus is spot on. A very hard subject to capture in flight and you pulled it off wonderfully. Very nice work!

Well, you certainly are giving everyone in the contest a good run for their money with this lovely upload.

COMPOSITION
The composition element of a photograph is very much a subjective decision on the part of an artist. It is here where creativity lies, the way you place elements within a frame. The way you placed this hummer was your artistic decision and unlike other reviewers on this site, I believe it is wrong to dock marks for artistic prerogative (to a point) and I will not dock you marks here and honor your artistic decision, however, I do have a suggestion.

For me, to make this image even stronger a closer crop on the bird would pull us in onto the main star of the show. Can you see what is happening instead of all our attention going on the bird, it goes to the flowers and that is because as human beings we respond to colour and olive and browns are the least stimulating to our eyes (according to studies made on colour and human psychology) and our eyes, the very natural pathway of our eyes not only reads left to right (for the natural western eye) but we always head for the brightest and contrastiest piece on the frame ....in this case it's the flowers and that is why a closer crop would be much better.

TECHNIQUE
This fellow is so tack sharp it's a joy to look at. What I also think is especially nice to add to the story telling ability of your image is that the wings are blurred and not frozen. Tthis is wonderful, it adds dynamism, there is movement and therefore magic is created. A frozen solid piece of hummer would be interesting...interestingly boring. This is a great capture of movement of life,of great focus, and garden colours abound. I really don't like that dark blue background and think you could either clone that out by adding more green or better still crop close to the bird.

What a quick hand and quick eye you have. Very lovely and pleasant upload to study.

Thank you so very much! I agree with your suggestion. I have a lot of shots of these birds up close. The intent here was as the title said "decisions". The idea here is to see the color then to see the bird. From the thumbnail all you see is colors. When you see it full size you get a surprise, I fully understand what you are saying and see your side as well! As far as the blue background I had not noticed! It is funny how other folks pick up on things.

That's so true and thank heaven's for fresh eyes because reviewer's have seen things in my images that I never in a million years would have noticed. It's really all very subjective isn't it...what some people love others will hate...and so it goes.

I like the stop action it is almost perfect. The blurry wing would make it less so. I also think the overall composition isn't bad . Nice variety of colors and shapes. Back to composition, I might crop it just little to bring a better balance between the bird and the background. Still overall a very nice shot.

This was quick thinking on your part. The wings are so sharp and crisp. You could use edge finder and blur the background which would eliminate some of the clutter. All in all this is a great photo.

Great focus on the hummer while everything else is out..catching a hummer in flight is an accomplishment in itself since they dart around so quickly. I almost didn't see the hummer for the color and quantity of the flowers. God Bless

Very nice shot. If it were mine, I might have lightened the dark area directly behind the bird so it stands apart from everything else in the photo.
