The pose of this bird is really funny with one foot up in the air. As you say, it must be quite unusual. It has clearly grown out of its nest, so it is good to hear that it has left it.
Your focus is very sharp showing very fine details in the bird, but also the nest is well defined. As usual you have captured the bright and shiny eye so well. I also think the colors are good and natural and the exposure is spot on.
I also think this is a good composition even if the nest and the bird is placed very much in the middle of the frame. I like the cropping as well, and am very glad you kept the whole nest in the image. Quite an original photo of this type of bird, and well spotted and taken. Nicely balanced and with excellent DOFF.

what a catch..good timing and framing. never seen anything like this before. Funny position and you even caught the eye sparkle to bring him to life. Such an interesting nest with nice color and texture. Focus is sharp and techs look good. Very impressive shooting.

As you say, right place, right time, and good that you got your lens back to capture this. What a great shot of this little fellow (big for its nest) laying on its back. I've never seen anything like this either. Reminds me of a cartoon where the critter died and its legs are sticking up in the air. ha You got a nice eye highlight so I know the little fellow isn't dead! Very interesting photo and captured with fine techs.
