A lovely work of art and so pertinent for the season. I am marveling at your technique used to cast the spell around this portrait. It appears to be a mix of wind and smokey tendrils and adds the movement that tells your story. Beautiful and expertly accomplished as usual. But your pencil isn't all that you used in this work. Your heart and soul are quite evident here.

This is another good example of your superb drawing and she does have simply gorgeous eyes! All the strength and subtlety imaginable there.. and her lips are luscious, too. Once again, my only suggestion is to add more contrast. With this one I could come down the right side of her face from where the hair touches near the eyes to right below the chin and give some form to her upper torso. I think that would help her to pop more. just a thought.

Dear sweet Oliver. I know the things that would make this piece better. Your observations are so welcome and I love you for them. Isn't it always after we have finished a piece that we see where we have missed the mark. It takes an eye for art to point out the short comings. Oliver, you honesty is so greatly appreciated.

Very talented Linda and love your fantasy story of the prince and witch. Wonderful details and contrast. She looks so real and hateful. The frog just waiting his time for the princess to come alone and bring him back to her. Wonderful, thanks for sharing.

You are so very welcome, Linda! God bless you also.. I can see that He gave you a fantastic gift in your drawings;) The Bible says that you shouldn't covent (spelled wrong) your neighbors things BUT I sure would like to have a gift of drawing like yours;)

hmm did you do that to the paper or is the texture drawn? it's a nice addition either way.

i've looked through your gallery and all of your compositions are exquisite. the figures/forms are precisely and beautifully rendered. all very smooth, detailed, succeed in creating form. HOWEVER... they are all so light!

your darkest darks only appear grey. it could be the scanner/photographs, but it looks like you use one number pencil for each work, and graphite reflects so that could also lighten the large areas of dark. not sure what it is exactly, but your work would be so much more brilliant if the blacks were black.

that's my overall critique of your work, now for a comment or two on this drawing specifically.

you have a definite affinity for beautiful things, which is understandable, but also limits your ability to convey certain messages effectively.

like, this would be a much more emotionally touching piece if ONLY her eyes were beautiful and the rest of her face were filled with blemishes, warts, wrinkles, skin folds etc.

i'm quite sure that it would be easy to do if you wanted, and i think that some stunning work would come of it if you branched out into the ugly.

That is a grand idea. Ugly might work. I haven't been attracted to the ugly, for life can be so ugly. But maybe my next work will be that. Thank you for your wonderful suggestions, and your fantastic critique,
    Linda

Your review is so welcomed, as it is heart-warming. And as Halloween packs up it's bags, and the Christmas is shaking off the dust, I am looking forward to finishing my Christmas drawing and posting it. I only hope that I can finish it in time. Thank you, a thousand times, for your uplifting review.
