The Swing

A simple swing that symbolizes much more.

Art may be subject to the whims of those who view it, but I don't understand how a picture of a swing in a park could symbolize "much more" than the obvious. The technical merits of this piece is flawless but that compliment is from someone who is lucky to not get her finger in front of the lense.

This piece would be best accompanied with some writing, perhaps a poem that would clue the viewer in to what you feel this picture's subject symbolizes.

Well, it's supposed to be loaded with visual symbolism. A Lone Swing + Random Footprints From Children + The Swing's Shadow = Youth.

The imagery maybe that simple for you but if you don't indicate it properly, half your audience won't get it. ~Tillie

I hate you for reminding me of those days which will never come back!
Your single swing reminds me of those days of carefree and careless abandon, not weighed down by worries and responsibilities.
I am in my youth which is flying away from me, every second, just like my childhood flew away.
But. the mood is beautifully captured.
The lonely isolated rubber red swing and the divine, inviting and warm earth is really delicious and of course very melancholic!
And the foot marks in the sand- all of them leading towards a different path, never to turn back!
Well Done!

Ah, so much that could be perceived by such a shot. Cube, this was a creative piece to capture...the lone swing in a non-motion position, focusing on mostly the seat...the footsteps imprinted in the sand with a washed out definition and the red tones against the sandy loom is impressing. Even timing it to capture the swing's shadow in the corner, was a nice touch.

Glad you liked it, and your comment left me knowing even more about my own photo then I even realized on my own! :)

Love the backround of the 'pink swing'. The sand is showing us how many people have used the swing and how it is loved! Thanks for a good picture.

Like this. What would have made this better would have been more chain and losing the shadow in the foreground. Nice focus and great texture in the sand.

This reminds me of when I was a child playing
on the swing in the park. Where I am from you
don't see to many if any of these around any more.
Thanks for the memories this pic brings back to me.

Good luck

I can see how it cymboizes much more but the photography in general is bad.
bad light and focus. Too wide of a spand. Should be higher and closer shot. again, out of focus.

I'm sorry you saw it that way. The huge space was supposed to show all the footprint symbolizing the immense fun that one had in youthful days with something so small. Plus, the swing's shadow is on the bottom, adding a dramatic bang.

A very serene shot. I like that the swing is off center in the shot. And that the sand is very disturbed. I wish the shadow was just a bit more in the picture. Nice job

For some reason this makes me feel sad. I saw it and the swing looked so .. lonely and abandoned. And to me that brought to images children that are grown up and have left their youth behind. Then I thought of my children...

Terrific work. I'm really surprised at the emotions it raised in me.
