Lovely portrait of this beautiful girl, and so expressive. Like the way you have her face cropped, and the texture with the sand and the litle scratch , I do agree add a wonderful touch of reality . Just a really lovely portrait.

You may have cropped this to fit in with the contest rules, but it has worked so well for this portrait. She has a look of wanting to hide, and the half portrait further accentuates that. beautiful color, and I love just the touch of green in the corner, I'm glad you left that in. Very beautiful portrait, I like the very natural look.

Thank you for your generous review. You made my day by liking the natural look. That was for what I was going. I may have cropped it for the contest but I could have cropped very different. I like the outcome here. It shows the beauty of the face even more then the the original.

You are so right. It does add to the photo. You did an excellent work here by cropping half of her face. Well done. Her eyes can tell a thousand things I am sure. She is deep in thought. Good focus and color

I am so glad you left the scratch and the sand. It gives this little girl character and spunk. I also think cutting the portrait in half gives this picture the WOW factor. It just punches me in the gut when I look at it. Her eyes are so powerful. Her skin color is gorgeous. Beautiful, moving picture. Good luck in the contest.

Nice crop, cleo, not only for fulfilling contest rules but also for showing the classical Mayan look you've mentioned. There is something about the facial structure and the look that is definitely Mayan.

There is such a beautiful almond shape to the eye.

I like leaving in the sand and the scratch that does provide that touch of reality. I'm sure others would have cloned them out but that would be for a different purpose.

Lovely shot.

Thank you so much. As always you are right on. I have other versions but liked this one most for the classical look. I'm happy you like my touch of reality. I dislike to beautify to much. So often is the soul of a picture the victim of beautifying.
reply by ZenTrip on 14-Nov-2008
Yes. The soul of the picture is here and needs nothing added or taken away.

This is a powerful composition and I like the way you presented this. You did well to convey a sense of emotion on this one. I think the lighting is a bit dark, but this is still a very nice image.

Thank you. I appreciate your generous and kind review very much. It may is a little dark I used the natural light. The village is in the middle of the jungle under tree foliage. I refused to use the fill flash for two reasons. Not to frighten the children [the village doesn't have electricity] an to preserve the beautiful skin color.

I wish I had a six star for you. I really like this shot. You have wonderfully captured the tones of the Mayan skin. The lines, created through the framing of your shot is perfect and allows the viewer to follow them with joy noting the respect and the dignity that you gave this young gal. Beautifully done. Thank you for sharing this. Travlin1
