This painting need much more work on the details - if the bird is suppose to be the focal point I think you would have concentrated on the bird and do him more colorful and add some light and shadow on him - especially the eye lack the white spot which is necessary in any face on an animal or a human.
Your color palette isn't good - the colors don't compliment each other much. the embossing/relief filter didn't help here - I suggest you soften the details with some artistic filter in Photoshop - if you have that program? Paint daubs filter would be a good idea here, best wishes, Carolisa

Thank you very much for your kind review and your helpful input.
I don't own photoshop. I live currently in the Yucatan, Mexico. It is impossible to have something as this send down here so I have to work with what is available to me. [Digital Image Suite, Paint Shop, Serif Photo Designer]
I don't know if you read that this isn't a digital painting only a digital rescue [truth I did the original acrylics also some years ago] so some damage is still visible when locked up closely.
I don't understand some of what you suggest. Especially why I should make the bird more colorful. I easily could do this but why? I worked hard with the my digital programs to get these colors what are the natural colors of the bird. I also tryed to stay with the natural colors of the jungle and the sandbank. Unfortunately these colors aren't bright in nature. I need your help here explaining to me how I complement these colors better with each other without taking the colors of nature away. I'm not a painter. I was never taught.
Thanks for telling me about the missing white spot. Actually the highlight is there truth not white. It is located in the upper half of the pupil about in the middle. May it doesn't show up enough in the resized version. I'll try to lighten it.
The light and shadow is a question of choice. It is not there intentionally. I just discovered that I forgot to mention in my notes that the picture is inspired by the wall and mural paintings found all through the Mayan-world from the Yucatan to Honduras were the images are somehow flattened in perspective and nothing has shadows.

Dear Cleo -this was many question at the same time and I cannot answer all of them here - About the bird - As I live in Sweden and I have never seen this bird myself in person - but I am sure it looks like this - the colors I mean.
The sky has an unnatural shade of purple and the greenery on the left side has not the right shades of green - it is too bright - I mean this is not as it look in the nature - I don't know about the bird as I told you but the sky and grass never has this colors - right? I really wish you had Photoshop - and you can buy it online as other software and it doesn't matter where you live. I sincerely hope you don't feel that I have put you down in any way because it wasn't my intention and I wish you all the best in the future, Kindest regards, Carolisa

    Thank you so much Carolisa,
No you didn't put me down. But I think we have a problem here. These colors. For someone who comes from Germany I know exactly what you mean but we have really different colors here and yes our sky could be purple with iridescent clouds. [very thin clouds with ice crystals in it who are reflecting sunlight.] We have more strange light phenomenas too. [mirage, Bavaris arc, green flash and more]
It isn't grass you see there. Grass doesn't grow in the jungle. It is moses, lichen, vines covering trees and underbrush. I have to check my photos currently posted about the colors but I certainly will post some with iridescent clouds in it. If you life here you don't realise anymore how unusual these things are.

I never had heard of them until I moved to Mexico. I don't know why so a beautiful bird is relatively unknown.
Thanks for your kind reply. ~Cleo

Very nice painting here. The marmont is very striking and love the irridescent effect you have used on him, really makes him stand out well. I am so happy that you were able to find a way to save such a lovely piece of art.

    Thank you so much.
The iridescens was the most complicated both times [acrylic and digital]. I don't know how many color and filter combinations I tried to get it. I think I have the feathers almost looking as on the real bird in sunlight.

Very nice work with high initial appeal and an interesting subject rendered with a style that reminds me of a sort of native or primitive folk art; not much perspective or dimension on the work overall. still, your composition is excellent with focus on the bird, but also featuring a dramatic , steep tropical background.

Thank you so much for your generous review. Thanks seeing what you were looking at. You are the only one so far who mention native art. You are very right. I was inspired by wall paintings and murals found throuought the Mayan-world from the Yucatan to Honduras. I thought this stile very adequate for the subject.

This is so lovely. What a great technique you have used for the artwork of this. The digital art has worked well here and the colour of the bird stands out so well. It is presented well!

This is very colorful. Nice use of mixed media. It looks like a painting on canvas. I like the textures.
The colors are quite brilliant. This really stands out.

    Thank you so much.
Part of it was a painting. I restored digitally the scan of a hurricane damaged painting.
