Such a rich and beautiful painting, Shawn - I love how you have repeated the main colours within the background, too. Again, your mastery of light and shadow turns this into a painting full of depth and life. Such a simple yet symbolic representation - a glass of red wine and a single rose - to which you have added your own unique style with delicate extras such as the wonderfully intricate design on the vase itself - something which is often overlooked in a picture like this. It's the attention to detail that counts. Wonderful piece - best wishes in the contest :)

forget 2D. it looks 3D.
i've got to say, if there's vase like this, it is one of the best ever made. :o)
such pretty designs in the rose. i enjoy the high lights in the picture. and the looks like it is under water. nicely done.

Shawn, your flowers are really very nice. The red rose has excellent form, the details in the leafs are well done. The vase is what really captures my attention. The design on it appears translucent, like the luminous colors of some of the finer glass pieces of Fenton. The sweeping magenta folds in the background are a beautiful backdrop. Your work is really lovely. What would take it to the next level would be to have more sharp edges, like the glass, rose and leafs. This requires masking and layering so the object softness/sharpness and color can be controlled. The leaf edges can be created with a smudge tool set to a harder type brush. I hope my suggestions do not offend you. You are an excellent digital artist. Russ

very nice drawing of the red rose, i love roses :) nice blending of the colours in the rose and the leaves, the background colours work really well too, the only small detail i'd say sharpen it a tiny bit more on the flower to stand out more.
