This is beautiful and perfect for the chapter of my fantasy book I've just posted. It has mystery, serenity and the most perfect part is that the lighting in this shot is stunning.

regards, Jen

Wow! Simply magical and beautiful. I could make a hundred stories around this image. I love your use of light...it keeps you wondering what the source is. Very atmospheric and a bit eerie too.

Lowenna, the idea for this one came without announcement. I have always strived to use believable lighting in all of my paintings. I certainly appreciate that you noticed. Thanks for the excellent review and rating.

I'd give you another star if I had one. I am awed by your ability to create such a realistic looking painting on a computer screen. My attempts at this kind of art are few and far between because they are usually like childish drawings compared to this. Great work of art.

hey Joe, I started digital painting in 1997...they looked like kindergarden smudge paintings. But, I got progressively better. It does require substantial patience but, for me, the passion grew with each effort. Thanks for the excellent review and rating. Russ Cleversley

People tell me I must have a lot of patience in order to be able to do what I do. I guess all of us hear the same thing. But my response is, I do it because it's therapeutic. It instills patience, and calm, rather than being an effect of it.

Emma C, thanks for the review and excellent rating. I looked at your web site and saw some cute and interesting art. The cartoons are charming, your abstracts are interesting and the paintings are nice. You mentioned that you "dream to be as good". First, you should consider getting a more powerful platform than the iPad. If you are to get serious about fulfilling your dream, then you will need a serious computer and a painting program. This is not an inexpensive purchase but it is what you will need to create meaningful, high resolution digital art that can be printed at the popular sizes...22x28 inches minimum. My art is huge, up to 60 x 96 inches. It can be printed up to double that size and as small as a postcard. But, my computer is loaded with power. Once you have the tools, I think you have the talent to pursue and catch your dream. Based on what I saw on your website, I believe that you will learn quickly and can create some beautiful art. I also believe that you should decide where your passions truly are. Right now you are a cartoonist, an abstract artist and and impressionist. It will get more confusing as you travel deeper into the creative forest by trying to be too many things, especially if you are learning a new painting program. I have been painting digital realism since 1996. I use a 27inch iMac with 16mg of RAM and I use Photoshop CS5 for my painting program. Photoshop is very expensive and it is difficult to use as a painting program. I plan on buying Corel Painter 11 in the near future. Corel is the premium painting program but it has a long learning curve. If you can afford it, that is the recommended way to go. Thanks again for the review....and, welcome to FAR Russ Cleversley

Wow thank you so much for your help and advice here I really appreciate that you have had time to look at my website aswell!, Yeah Im saving for a Wacom Cintiq 12 wx, I have created some detailed art on the iPad but when it comes to printing Im limited to small sizes, plus the effects and tools will be much more advanced on a professional graphics tablet. Im in a bit of a dilemma with regards to finding what I want to stick at..cartooning bright colourful illustrations are what I enjoy the most and feel more confident in doing, I would love to be a children's book illustrator one day. Im getting better each day so who knows what the future holds!, Thanks again for your help and support :-) p.s are you a member of deviant art? your art would be so popular on that site, if you are add me my username is cyberchick7.

Emma, you are very welcome. I am pleased to hear that you are already considering a platform upgrade. When I started in digital art the computers were too slow to process the brush strokes. I had to keep the paintings small and more simple. Now, everything I do is nearly in real-time. It makes it fun as opposed to a maddening tedious process. If illustrating children's books is where you want to be, that is completely up to you. That field is quite active and the style of art ranges from cartoons to more realistic. So, you may required to create a variety of styles. Each artist needs to find themselves. I happen to love highly detailed realism that simulates traditional fine art.

I do belong to Deviant but have not been on that site for a couple years. I did not care for the culture of the site. I should go back and check it out. Many FAR members have migrated to RedBubble. It is a decent site. My web site (still a work in process) is: www.pixelartisan.com

I have to run, nice chatting with you. Russ Cleversley

TM, I started digital art back in 1997. After a year of frustrating efforts, I finally found how to create digital paintings. Now, it is the only way that I paint. It allows me to create on the fly and achieve high levels of realism. Thanks for the excellent review and the sixth star. Russ Cleversley

I love a picture that pulls me in and has me longing to be there. The subtle color blends work well together and pass on a peaceful feeling. The air of mystery is very effective.

I am amazed at the ability of those of you who create with only the computer. This is a lovely piece. It is very realistic and lifelike. The notes bring out story of th e story. The light and shading are great. Very nice piece.

Vulken, For me, painting on the computer is very tedious. I painted with the mouse for 13 years but have added a Wacom Art Tablet that make the process much more effective. It is more like using a natural brush. Thanks for the excellent review and 5 star rating. Russ Cleversley

Mr. Barry, I have beed trying to come up with paintings that are more emotional, more dramatic, perhaps more spiritual. In looking back at some of my earlier works, they seemed dry and lacking that certain something that would make people really take notice. Perhaps my touch with my mortality triggered something. I had a medical emergency early in March, still recovering. I was rushed to the hospital with serious internal bleeding, went under two days of transfusions and had stomach surgery to plug a hole. SInce then, I have looked at my art a little differently. It needs to be more expressive, more spiritual...but not religious. Strange. I thank you for the excellent review and superb rating. This painting has received 62 reviews so far. My pecking fingers are getting worn out!! I may need to paint with my elbows!! Take care my friend, Russ Cleversley
