Lucky you having a daily picture of an area where there is life to photograph albeit such a difficult subject to take.
You have caught it well with a good focus.
I do prefer the wings up but that is only my opinion.
It is still a perfect shot in flight

This is a lovely shot of a flying heron. The blue sea or lake is a perfect background. The bird really pops against it. Your focus is nice and sharp. Extremely good details in the feathers and the bird's head. Excellent use of light. I think the placement of the bird within the frame is perfect. Nice and gentle cropping. This is really a 6 star shot. Lovely balanced and with good DOFF. Good luck with the contest.

My gosh, what a beautiful photograph. I can't imagine what it would have taken to make this wonderful bird 'shine' anymore than what you've done. You've caught the wing position, the extended neck, the trailing legs and feet... all of it perfectly. The water is beautiful and also the shadow. Great job.

Great colors and contrast etc. Considering your focus is in flight I am impressed with the amount of detail you were able to obtain. I think it is a little short of what it needs to be in order to enlarge this piece to a nice presentation size... but I may be wrong about that. It does look like the photo was cropped significantly to reach these proportions, but again that doesn't really hurt the photograph. Nice work on a cool shot. Good luck in the contest!
