This is a cool find; I am a nature person and have never seen a hummingbird nest. Didn't even know they took time out of their busy little schedule to build such ornate dwellings. I thought they spawned asexually!

Seriously this is one of those photographs that is more than just the quality of the image itself. It is the scene that is being depicted that is important. And you have that nailed here. Great work capturing this.

Your image though, is lacking just a little. There is NOTHING dynamic or visually stimulating about a flash on a camera. I know you are outside and can't set up lighting and the natural lighting wasn't enough to get a good pic. Just understand that your image is going to suffer as a result. I will give some credit to the fact that your flash did create some nice contrast between the foreground and that background, of course the focus did that for you as well.

Cool shot, and definitely one worth entering in this contest. Good luck to you, let's see how the voting goes!

Thanks! I was standing on a ladder, holding the branch down a bit and shot several. I shot some without the flash but it was to shaded. I tried several settings and went down to a slow shutter speed and wide fstop but this one with the flash looked best.

I hear that. I know these can be difficult shots to get, and I HATE saying stuff like "if you had only turned off the flash" etc when it is obvious that you needed it for good reason. Still, those camera flashes just wash out a photo. I can't stand camera flashes. They REALLY get on my nerves.

Ok, I'm done venting. You put a lot of work into this shot and that shows. You did good. It is well received.

Aw, they are too sweet.
What a great capture.
Beautiful lighting.
Great composition. The strong diagonal pulls the eye right to the babies. Great focus and clarity. Best of luck.

Very nice, what a great shot. A rare view of these delicate creatures. Ofter hard to see all the beauty in nature because so much of it is so small.

This is a one in a million shot. Did you, perhaps, have an earlier version of this posted that was not quite up to par?
This photo has excellent clarity, with the lens pointed precisely at the subject; this shows exquisite detail & is quite telling. Notable is the level of difficulty to achieve this (Watching & waiting). Your lens is not that powerful; apparently your determination is.

thank you so very much! The other one I was on the groud shooting up. The parent bird would not have it any other way. For this one I was on a ladder.

Beautiful work. Like the contrast between foreground and back ground. Very good composition and I like the way the front bird is mirrored by the one behind. Amazing detail in the nest. Well done.
