Nice Capture! I like the black or dark background as it directs all the attention toward the humming bird. Good stop action.

Hey I really like this photo! I love how you pasted the humming bird to a black background! You have captured the flying image well! Good Job Here!

Thank you so very much! I did not paste it on! This was taken in the late afternoon on an overcast day. There is trees in the background. It was a very dark green and when I adjusted the contrast it turned black!

Great shot. I am impressed with two things here; for starters you have some fantastic detail in this image, and that is a hard thing to accomplish with something moving so fast. Excellent job capturing that. Second, I am going to assume that you took this picture during the say and that you blacked out the background using editing software. I can't see any tell-tale evidence of this in the photo. There is a reflection of something in the birds eye, but I can't tell if it is the flash or the sun. There appears to be some small discolorations around the outside of the birds feathers at the tip of her tail and under her sternum; this could be caused by the camera but I am thinking rather that is was caused in the editing bay. In any event my point here is that even if I am correct in my belief that this background was edited and blacked out you did a fantastic job. Real clean work. I have an eye for catching errors in that process, and I am not really picking up on anything here. Fantastic work.

Your focal point is off-set and there is a great flow to your image. It is lacking a little color, something you want to see when picturing birds and nature. That makes this a great shot of a hummingbird but also makes it a liability if you were to hang it in a gallery next to any other shots of birds. Please don't take that to mean it is a bad shot, because it isn't. You take what you can get and you got something really special here. It just falls short on the scale of "WOW THAT IS AN AMAZING SHOT."

Great capture, keep them coming.

Thank you so very much! This was taken in the late afternoon on an overcast day. There is trees in the background. I was using a flash mounted to the hotshoe. After the download I saw the background was a very dark green. I adjusted the contrast and the background turned black! I have tried to duplicate it but have had no luck. I guess it was just the right time kind of thing! The tail is faned out and you can see part of it just under the wing.

How interesting... I've never seen someone get a background like that as a result of contrast adjustment. That's cool.

I have tried to duplicate it but have not been able to. I think it was because of the overcast conditions!

Hi Wille,

This IS an incredible shot of a hummingbird in flight! Knowing how fast those little wings move, you did a fantastic job of capturing them so well...not to mention her. Love the fact you can see all the tiny feathers in perfect focus. The black background really makes the hummingbird stand out. Nice twinkle in the eye too!

I envy you...four hummingbird feeders....WOW! :o) Helvi
