You have captured a great initial impact image of the hummingbird. The black background helps highlight the bird.

Good composition, focus, sharp detail and light.Good artist notes. Well done. Thanks for sharing.

Fantastic photograph. Hummingbirds make the best photographs in my opinion and you captured this one beautifully. Not sure if you took this photograph at night or just blacked out the background, but either way it works!

Thank you so very much! It was in the late afternoon and an overcast day. The background is trees and was a dark green, after adjusting contrast it turned black. I have tried to recreate it with no luck!

so true , when they are chasing each other they are a blast to watch ! I have two feeders on my patio, 7th floor ..and watch these precious creatures religiously ...your photo is awesome ! love the tail feathers on the bottom , never seen that before , and they come here all day , every day ...was this at night ? they feed at night ? never here , although they are the last birds to leave before it's pitch black ! great photograph !

Thank you so very much! It was late afternoon and it was overcast. There was pine trees in the backgroud. It was a dark green, I adjusted contrast and it turned black! I have tried to get this look with other shots and have not been able to duplicate! Just luck!

Nice capture of the frozen moment in time. At the rate at which they move their wings, surprised that there is not a little motion blur at the tip of the wing, even with a high speed flash.

The dark background does a good job of making the bird stand out although the lighting seems to not be totally uniform with the back wing being a little dark.

What are the three strange comma shaped marks at the base of the rear wing?

Although the background do do a nice job of making the bird stand out, on this one, it looks a little naked without some background - perhaps lowering the flash output and using a higher ISO to make it more of a fill flash rather than only flash.

I really like this photograph. This a perfect shot. Great action photo. Very nice color on the bird. I like the way the little guy's beak and eye are exposed in the shot. Nicely done.

What a great photo of a hummingbird. I have always found it interesting that it is only among humans that the female uses color to attract the male. In the rest of nature, as far as I know, it is the male of a species that is the most colorful to try and attract a mate. Your story about the feeders is hilarious. I'm sure it is a ball to watch. While her coloring is rather drab, she is still a hummingbird. Your capture of her in the air is terrific. She is very clear and with her wings in that position so much of her is visible.
