Excellent macro photograph. I am sure it will do well in the contest. W is this manual or auto focused? Excellent in all photographic techniques but if it was there I would have included the entire wing.
Good luck in the contest and thanks for sharing this. Dave

Thank you so very much for the review and high score Dave! I always use auto focus. My eyes are not good enough anymore, nor am I fast enough!

I know what you mean. Your photos are always so sharp and clear. Is that the way the come from the camera or do you sharpen them some?
Sorry to ask so many questions but I am just impressed of the consistant sharpness of you post. I just dont seem to be able to acheive that on a consistant basis. Dave

I usually adjust the contrast and sharpen. I get good quality shots I may shoot five times to get one good one but that is the case no matter what lens you shoot with. I love the Olympus Equiptment but the 70-300 is the biggest lens Olympus makes. I can't afford to spend any more any how. I know Nicon has a 500.

Do the make a teleconverter/doubler that would extend your range to 450 or 600. I don't know if Sigma or Tamaron make compatible mounts for the Olympus or not. But you really don't need more than a 300 if you get quality shots you can crop them and still have a good image especially for printing. I shot a lot with a 200 before I got the 400. I also have a 50-500 Sigma that is pretty good and have a doubler for it also to make it a 1000 but you better be in ideal conditiont if you exspect to get quality shots with it as a 1K. Dave

My lens came from the factory with a doubler on it. I dont think you can even take it off. It says 140/600 equiv. I am happy with it but I still bould like to get closer.

Wow no wonder they look so close. i think your probably as good as you can get for now if they don't offer any larger lenses. If you look in your properties does it show the doubled mm reading? Mine changes if I put on the doubler. Dave

I always shoot jpeg And the properties does not show anything about the settings.

That is very unusual I thought all digital cameras imbeded that information in a EXIF file within the image download. If you right click on a file then click on properties and the select details at the top what does it show just blanks? Dave

It tells the size and date created and that is all
reply by Msgt Clark on 25-Aug-2011
That is sirprising to me. I will have to change what I tell people in the future as I thought all digital camers in recent times included the information. When did the E3 come out? Dave

I really don't know how long. I will read my book maybe it will tell something about the files!

I am not sure it would be there I will check mine and see what it says. Dave

Wow...what a great close up shot! I really love the details in the wings and it is amazing that you can see the probiscus (something like that...LOL) drinking the nectar! I wish I had a 6 for you...good luck in the contest!

Thank you so very much! I am shooting through the car window. They won't fly!

I like the colors and the contrasting colors between butterfly and background. I do think that it would have been a better presentation if all the butterfly were in the shot, or you had cropped it even closure to bring all the attention on just the face and feeding. To me it needs to be either or, as it is it seems to be in a neverland state as a composition. Lighting on my screen seems a little bright and you have lost some of the finer details on the body because of that aspect.

Excellent lighting and focus, beautiful colors and details. It would be fantastic if parts of the wings were not cropped out of the picture.

This is a beautiful picture of this butterfly. I like all the detail you see in him. The way you composed this leaving part of the flower is great. Just an excellent picture. Good luck in the contest.
