So beautiful, love the motion and with the black background the hummer stands out with impact,a well done composition.

It was worth several hundred shots because this is superb.

With only the bird in the frame, your composition is simple but I like your placement.

Your lighting is excellent and does not seem harsh given your use of your flash. Your exposure is perfect, exposing the bulk of the bird perfectly with his beak and wing tips fading into the blackness, makes for a very appealing visual.

You froze most of the action, which for me is perfect. His body, head, and tail feathers are sharp and only his beating wings are soft, which is great, adding to the action which is part of what a humming bird is.

This is a real pleasure.

Great shot Willie and wouldn't expect anything less from you! Love the motion and the tail fanning out! Nice sharp focus and natural colors are perfect! Well framed with a nice eye highlight bringing her to life! Hope she has a safe trip south!

I am in South Texas right now, and we are inundated with these guys. They are everywhere! Thanks for sending them our way!

Excellent shot. Fantastic contrast and spacial balance, this is like a shot right out of National Geographic. Great detail and tonal range. I like the use of the black background, it does make the focal point pop off the page. And I'm not going to berate you for this, but I feel like it is a crutch. I get the feeling you are relying on these simple backgrounds to help enhance your imagery. That's fine, there is nothing wrong with that. But at some point you are going to have to get a little more creative.

Great shot Willie . I'm sure it took a lot of patience . I like what you did with the black background . It adds a lot to the composition .

This makes a good shot. Is it not a bit like another you posted. You must be very patient to sit there and try to get the perfect shot.
Lovely composition and you can almost see the speed of it's flight.

i love this shot! beautifully sharp and clear. These fellows are a lot of fun to feed and to watch, and amazingly agressive for their size. I might suggest a wee bit of lighening on the beak, as it blends into the background a little. I have NEVER gotten a shot this good! Donkeyoatey

Thank you so very much! I did dodge the beak a bit.

A very good effort indeed. Like your classical composition and love the pose you have captured. Really enjoy the splay of the tail feathers. Interesting that even at 1/1500 sec the wings have a little blur indicating movement. Did you plan it this way? Great work, well done!

Thank you so very much! I just try to get it in focus which is a feat in itself! I take what I can get! Sometimes their wings are moving faster than other times! I have completly stoped them in some!
