WOW! This surly is up close and personal. What a great shot. Very well focused! I can look straight into the eye of the bird. I like the way you caught him with his mouth open. Wonderful color and clarity. Very enjoyable photo. Nicely done Willie. Best of luck with the contest.

This is an excellent close up of the female cardinal's eye. I like the angle you used for this. Lighting and focus very good showing excellent detail in her markings and colours. Very good composition.

You can't get very much closer than this. It is fantastic details in this shot. The eye is really standing out nice and sharp. Being a cardinal the colors are of course lovely and the use of light is excellent. Really like the tight cropping to show off this great eye of a bird. Very nice composition. Good luck with the contest.

Interesting picture. Very nice colors. The eye and light reflection very good, however the partial open beak is disturbing, the view goes there to understand... Focus good, allowing the smallest feathers to be seen. Lighting good. Contrast and sharpness good. Good luck in the contest...

This like the limbo dancing stuff; how close can you get to the eye! Any closer and I will be able to see you in the birds eye! Nice cropping to concentrate on the region around the eye. Lots of great colour and detail provided as well. Good shot, well done!

Good Morning, WOW! love all the detail you have managed to capture here. You can actually count all the feathers and the long spikie ones that come from the nose to the bottom edge of the top beak The curled tounge just visible on the bottom left realy anchor this piece for me I find the eye travels from there up to the eye and then sweeps around the bottom following the line of lighter quill ends on the bottom right off the frame in the middle left. This is just wicked awsome I hope you have a great day, C

I think if you're going to crop this close you should at least leave in all of the beak. And clone out that hair on the eye. Otherwise it's got great colour and quite good initial impact.
