Beautifully created tiger. Lots of work and expertise. Is strange that he appears to be in the desert.. Colors are lovely and mellow.

when I saw the photograpoh that i used as a reference that seemed a bit odd to me also but I loved the colors, thats why I added the filter to the ground to give it a textured appearence and not so smooth, sort of like carpet I had no idea where tigers are in a desert LOL
thank you marieanne for a wonderful review

Think this is just the perfect tiger drawing for someones little girl. He looks peaceful and the picture shows the beauty of his coat, colors and patterns.
I like the pose, the straight ahead facing, the softness of the tigher, the light glow and colors around him, and the texture and shadings of the ground around him.
well done

UPDATED: Having looked at a lot more pics on this site than when I first rated this, I decided that my original rating was unduly harsh in view of the importance of the points I raised, and I have increased my rating accordingly.

ORIGINAL: Very nice from a compositonal standpoint. However, the ears and the white fur on the left side of the kitty's head are little soft focus.

Also, on the body, it's even softer, which makes sense if shooting open f-stop, but your carpet background further away looks a bit sharper which is a giveaway that the background was changed.

I'm not a photographer,So I would suppose that you did realise that this is all a digital painting. I couldn't shoot a good photgraph myself even with the best camera on the market so I really don't understand what shooting open f-stop means in your notes. they are very detailed which is a big help to me, but I didn't quite understand the meaning of some of them. Could you please explain the 'soft focus' a littel further and what you meant by shooting f-stop' since I'm a painter and not a phtographer I'm sorry for my ingnorance , but when someone see's a flaw in my art, this is how I learn to be btter ar my craft. It would be deepy apreciated

also i like my paintings to look as perfect as I can possable make them, but I want to add a touch of fantasy to them also, that's why I changed the background ground with a filter to give it more of a textured apreance than a smooth one, makes him look at bit like setting on a carpet

At any given focus setting, there will be a range of distances that are actually in focus, that is your depth of field.

If you were to look through a lens -- the kind that you mount on an SLR not a built in -- you can see that there is an "aperture" dial that can be turned that's marked something like
    2 2.8 4 5.6 8 etc.
    Those values are called "stops".
as you move toward the higher #s, an iris inside the lens closes, making the effective light opening (the aperture) smaller.

the lower numbers mean bigger apertures, more light gathering power, thus can capture a lower light image or allow use of a faster shutter speed. The higher numbers ("stopped down") give you greater depth of field.

The term "soft focus" is usually used by photographers to refer to a photo, or part of a photo, that isn't quite in focus. It is often done deliberately, for artistic effect, perhaps in a romantic scene. There was no apparent expressive reason for the ears not to be in focus, however, so it was a limitation of the pic you chose as a model.

I was aware from your comment that this was a digital painting. However, the impression I had was that you were attempting to make it look real, and the depth of field issue I saw -- face in focus, rear out of focus, background further back not quite as much in focus -- is physically impossible.

I hope that helps -- any explanation of a subject like this runs the risk of being oversimplified or overcomplicated.

hahah great notes with this.
I love the bright colors in your background purr-fect for a young lady (or anyone else really) Strong composition. You have done a nice job on the stripes-not overdone at all which is always easy with a tiger. Good facial expression.

I continue to be impressed with digital art, and regardless of the appropriate category, this piece of art is very well done. It is obvious that you put a lot of time and effort into this piece. Power and grace together with emphasis on detail have resulted in a very nice work of art. Next challenge is a leopard! Then you will be seeing spots everywhere!! Thank you for sharing, love your notes.

Very beautiful piece you digitally created. If they only had this one look i'd love one as a pet, but we know there is more than one look. Lovely piece.

Very nice work! I am a traditional artist (paint brush in hand. lol) and have tried to figure out the digital stuff yet. Seams like it would be alot more difficult. Your background color is a perfect complement to the tiger. Detail is great! Good job.

here I am a digital artist and wish I could be more of a traditional artist, LOl If it weren't for the brushes bascially named for you on twisted brush I couldn't do anything, my sketches are so cartonish but I am trying to get better at them, but for now it seems my skill lies more with a computer.
thank you so much for a wonderful compliment

Nice job Lynkah. I just question the position of the ears . It appears that the left ear( as you face the work, is a bit forward of the other one , and I was trying to determine the direction of your light source .

you are extremly observant and one of my hardest issues is lighting and shadows, which direction is it facing. I am still struggling with that one. when I look at a photgraph, I nortmally have two or three that I use as a reference so needless to say the light is from differnt directions so I have to try to guess my way as to the lighting effects, I think I will have to go out of the realm of being a self-taught artist and go take a few courses, because it would be beter to know how to judge that than guess it.
I can't thank you enough for such a kind review and giving this a five even with the flaws that you noticed, and you are correct on both, at least thats what I saw also but couldn't figure out how to fix it
    thank you again
