This is a wonderful shot of a hummingbird. It is amazing how they can stand still with just the wings in motion when they eat. It is lovely colors in the little bird, and the addition of the orange an yellow flowers make this photo really stand out.

Your focus on the bird is nice and sharp showing lovely details, and at the same time you also have the sharpness of the flower in the foreground. The background is nicely blurred and your use of light is very good. I like that you included all the faded flowers in the background.

It could have been tempting to crop this photo tighter, but I think you did the right thing by keeping all the negative space around the bird, and the placement of it works well. I think this is a well taken shot, and your image is nicely balanced and with appropriate DOFF. Good luck with the contest.

I am going back to all my reviews that I gave 4 1/2 stars to. I thought I only had 6 per week. I was mistaken, that applies to 5 1/2 and 6 stars. So here is an update with 5 stars.


The Hummer was a real bonus over a Butterfly. Background totally blown out in a soft pattern has a nice effect.
Overall pleasing colors with the center of attention on the subject.
