This is a very nice shot. Not too close as to leave the viewer wondering about the context of the shot. Very nice focus and great DofF bring out the main elements of the photo. Nice placement in the frame and the subtle background colors make a great composition. Well done.

Awesome image! Everthing about this shot is wonderfully done. Focus is bang on to give the hummingbird full center of attention. Split second timing caught him in mid-air with blurred wings behind him and head dipped into the flower. Colors are gorgeously harmonious yet the intense color has been isolated with the soft colors of the background. Love how the blooms are all slightly angled towards the left. Great details are evident in the plumage and flowerheads. Overall this is simply beautiful!

WOW what a great shot Willie! The hummer and the bloom in perfect focus and so brilliant in the natural colors of the female ruby throated darling. Excellent b.g. to show her off and the d.o.f. makes the focal point just jump off the page! Can almost hear her! Best of luck in the contest!

nice shot. Great focus on the bird and the flower she is feeding from. The blurred wings give you some idea of how fast she was moving them
Well fdone and thanks for sharing

I love this shot Willie. You`ve captured him clearly with his wins blurred so we get the suggestion of the speed of his wings. the marigolds make a good oil for him. It is a rare thing to get a shot of hummingbirds I think. Well done. Thanks for posting this.

I know that you have received the all time best award for this and I apologize for only being able to give you a 5 as a rating when what I would love to give you is a 10, based solely on the clarity and the fact that somehow you captured this little guy in stop motion. It really is perfect which I know that you already know but the staging of the shot, the way the color of the flower pops off the canvas is perfect. Thank you so much for sharing this with us and allowing me the opportunity to review it.

Oh Willie, this is an award winner. It is such a perfect capture and I take off my photographic hat off to you and bow. This is professional level.
Not only is the main star in dead sharp as a tack focus, not only is he in that third grid, not only is the flower in focus but you have set your camera on perfect dof to blur the background and to blur those wings.
Your technique is stellar, your composition is stellar, and if you don't win this contest I will eat my polarizing filter.
Simply splendid.

I was only yesterday reading Australian Photographic magazine where they had an article on capturing humming birds in flight. And then I saw your photo and it was just as good, if not better, than those in the magazine. Worth more than 5 stars. Wonderful amazing colour and light. Focus - always good from you willie. Cheers, Michele
