We are very fortunate in Canada to have legal same-sex marriage. The bride certainly seems to be glowing and hopefully has had a successful birth. Great shot. Thanks for sharing. Cyn

Thanks so much for your comments, I have reworded the text as a couple of reviews including yourself misunderstood - the marriage celebrant who officiated at the ceremony was pregnant not my daughter. Fiona is the one with glasses :)

This is wonderful the way you took this. How great for them to be able to do this and to be so happy. That must be extra special to be expecting a baby. An excellent picture.

I understand the emotions by those that know these people but that does not make for a thoughtful, artistic photograph. The composition is not so goo and the image is dark. There could be a better angle of view and the image is not as clear a it could be. Thanks

Thanks, you are totally correct emotions were running very high - I have recropped after suggestions from another reviwer and also used "dodging" not that I am used to the software in hope of improvment of shadows. The angle I had not control over as mother of bride that is taken from my seat with a casio snap and shoot. Really just wanted to show that not all weddings are the bride in white but I really appreciate your honest review :) Mary

Happiness in shades of blue!

COMPOSITION
Mary, if you cropped the right side just a tad tighter towards your daughter it would balance the photo a touch more, can you see how tightly the lady of the left is cropped, part of her shoulder is sliced...do the same to your daughter to balance (just a bit not all the way to the shoulder that would be too much, play with it). And if you crop down just a touch...NOT A LOT, just a wee bit more to bring in this happy scene closer to us. Otherwise compositionally this is well done for you have included only that which is relevant to the image into the frame and nothing else.

There is a story here and it is a comfortable scene to look at but had you not said it was a marriage I wonder how many of us would have guessed that's what it was.

TECHNIQUE
What you need to do here is take this image into your software and hit the shadow/highlight button and what will happen is that those dark shadows on their faces will pop out. There is a lever by which you can adjust the highlight/shadow if it comes out too bright...so just bring it down a bit to make it more natural. OR ...you could take your dodge tool to lighten their faces by perhaps about 20% and that way it would be a brighter and more powerful photo. This is considered a technical flaw of exposure so I have to deduct a point here.

I like the saturation of the sky and your camera's meter was fooled and exposed for the sky, for it's brightness making the main stars darker...had you exposed for them it would have come out better but the sky would have been washed out...a fine balancing act.

I have not deducted a mark for composition as that was your artistic decision to compose the image in your own special way and I honor your artistic prerogative.

Thanks once again for your honest and detail review. I have tried using the software to improve shadow on faces and recropped a little. Not sure whether it has improved or not, need to play more with software editing. Photo was taken with snap and shoot Casio so quality is never quite up to the SLR. Cheers Mary

A great photo for the family album and looks like the scenery that I can see a peek of in the background is beautiful. I feel the photo lacks a little in clarity and light, but is strong in its story telling.
