The lions head and the colors and blending there are all very good. I really like that aspect of the image. I am also looking at the background and thinking it needs to be enhanced with a horizon line. Or maybe a silhouette form, of the plains, to help break up the area visually, to add depth and perspective. I am also thinking the lion needs his neck and shoulder on the right, he looks too much like he is floating.
Like I said he looks great, the colors used on him & the blending of the colors is all masterful done. However, the composition is lacking.

Thank you Lucien for such a detailed review. It really is appreciated. I didn't mean the background to be a sunset that needed a horizon, only meant it as a backdrop, looking at it, it does look like it needs a horizon which makes the lion without a body a very strange piece of work ,,little scary with the floating head and all LOL,, I guess I was just going for the head of the lion with no detailed background, but thank you for pointing out that the background I used really makes this piece off.

This big cat is a beauty.
Love the colors, the smoothness, how many lines describe his mane.
Very good rendering of a lion, with nose/face/head being in good proportion.
