What a great macro of this unusual bird. Love the open and rather shopworn beak, the concentration in its expression, and of course, the red feathers, blending into such a delicate orange near the beak. The color and treatment of the background really works nicely to show off this lovely creature.

He is wonderful. I love the clarity of the feathers, they stand out beautifully, that head is truely flame red and it matches his eye, nice to be color co-ordinated, even a bird. Not having woodpeckers where I come from, red head, red belly, They are all new to me. Its a great shot.
