(Revised) Please accept my apology, I just joined and did not notice the instruction link. After reading the instructions, I felt compelled to revise my review.
This is an excellent shot, it immediately grabs the attention of the viewer. The eyes and beak are focused perfectly which is extremely important in bird photography. Presentation is nicely done with the blurred green background making the bird stand out superbly. I love the contrasting colors and sharp focus.
However, the dirty beak leaves one to wonder what the red bellied woodpecker was doing. Perhaps the description would be more effective if you described what the bird was doing.
Also, it is true that a lot of people may incorrectly assume this is a redheaded woodpecker but I don't know that it is necessary to point that out. However if you chose to perhaps you could word it differently. Maybe state that the red headed woodpecker's entire head is deep red and since the viewer can't see the belly in your photo they don't know this woodpecker has a red belly.

Thank you so very much! I have a log turned up on end and I use it to feed the birds on. This guy just landed on the side and peeped over the edge and at that time I snapped the shutter. I would assume he just came from a rotted log and this is the residue from there. Thanks for the suggestions! Welcome to FAR! I hope to see some of your work posted soon.

Very good close up of this little woodpecker. They are very hard to catch as they move around constantly. Very good focus and the colors are bright. I like how it looks like he's looking up. Great job.

Wow - what a close up! Composition is good, the woodpecker's head is in full frame - lighting and shading is well done, there are no areas that are too dark or wasted out - eye is sharp, which is perfect! A great capture - I'll have to look up the difference because I know nothing of woodpeckers, but this is a beauty, thanks for sharing!

What a fantastic close up of a woodpecker. It is indeed standing out from the nicely blurred background. I like it when backgrounds have a silky look like this.

Your focus is spot on and very sharp. It is great details in the feathers and the shiny eye is really standing out clear and sharp. Looks like the bird is quite alert. I also think the exposure is perfect and the colors are nice and natural. It is nice the way the light is falling on the bird.

The placement of the bird's head within the frame is perfect and the cropping as well. It is enough negative space all around. This is a nicely balanced image and an excellent shot. I wish you luck with the contest.
