This is a great "in your face" shot
colours are lovely and you have used DOF to your advantage
the light in the birds eye is tiny but draws you to it

Your photography is excellent. The detail in the bird is very crisp right down to the strands in the feathers. The plain blurred background is lovely. I like the soft pastel green a lot. It is a nice contrast to the colors of the bird.

What a beautiful shot! A whole lot of difference! We have the red headed one here and he looks nothing like this one, he is black and white with a real bright head! Love the DOF and the very sharp focus on the bird! Beautiful colors! I have never seen this one! So glad you have shared! Best of luck in the contest!

Thank you so very much! I have the red head here too but not around my home. I think the red head is a prettier bird. We also have the pileated here too which is prettier than either of the two! Don't forget to vote, it is going on now.

Very good macro photography of this bird. The focus is so clear I can see little hairs just under the lower beak. God exposure too, and good composition on this. I like the grayish background here to bring the red on the top of the head out so well. Super photo

Thank you so very much! The point is to show the detail of the eye and feathers, if I show the whole bird you would not see those details. There was very little cropping.
