Dynamic Hand

The hand shown in simple lines

I think you chose a challenging angle to draw of a hand and succeeded in replicating the form of it nicely. I am assuming that the index finger is proportionate and bending as the other fingers. The muscle, bone and vein structures have been brought out in an interesting manner. I like how you have used various direction with your lines and how well that worked for shading and adding detail and depth.

I had not seen any of your work lately, so I had to have a look. I think drawing a hand is just as difficult as drawing an eye. If you want to picture the whole body of a human these are the two elements you need to get right. The simplicity of the pencil work is quite effective, and I think you could have used even less and get the same good result. Perhaps less at the bottom of the hand and a little more at the top.

You have also made it quite difficult for yourself by showing the fingers bent, but the proportions are correct on the three fingers which are. I am a bit more uncertain about the pointing finger. If also this is meant
to be slightly bent the top with the nail should have been pointing more downwards. Ir to make it more easy for yourself, the whole finger just straight out. This is the only part of the hand I think could have been done better.

You did however succeed to give the drawing a dynamic impression. You are of course entitled to disagree about my comments.

    avmurry,

I agree it would have been easier to not have the hand at the angle I drew it at but I think it would have been less dramatic if I had not drawn it as i did. but the reality is I wanted to see if I could do it and make it work, to me it does work, it is not an everyday pose, but that is the fun and challange in drawing things for me. be it teh psoe or teh technique, teh challange is trying something different and new.

    Martin Smith images,

what about it needs to be improved, your rating on the drawing suggests it is in need of something?

Thank you for your support of the drawing and my artwork, you critique and the time to write it is appreciated.
I wanted to show with a single lead (2D) the various elements of a hand, in a dramatic and yet simple way, based on you response it works.

    Have great day, cheers!!!

Oh Lucien, Im only a simple photographer but I will review your work as it comes up and give my honest thoughts, albeit not technical ones. For it to have worked for me I would have liked to see the fingers extended because they look cut off. but thats only one opinion and 4.5 out of 5 is not a mark to be ashamed of

I am not ashamed of the rating or of my work. but as I am a perfectionist I just wanted to know for my own use what you thought should have been improved.

thanks again for your support and clarification. cheers!!!

This is one cool_looking hand. It looks like you worked really hard on it. How long did it take you to finish it? I love how detailed the hand is. Keep up the good work.

    ksymozilla,

as Picasso would say it took me years to develop the talent, the eyes to see and then tell the hand to draw what I was looking at and then creating in my own style what I saw.

Thank you for your support of the drawing and my artwork, you critique and the time to write it is appreciated.

It kind of looks like Spiderman morphed into a robot ultra clone. Frankly, it might be more dynamic, in terms of impact on eyes and emotions, if you concentrated on the body language the hand expresses,

    princessbubblegum,

thank you for your support of the drawing and my artwork, you critique and the time to write it is appreciated. What do you see that needs to be improved or corrected, your rating in the critique suggests it needs something, what would that be?

Based on what you wrote it doe show and express power, drama.

My comment was flippant and I apologize for that. I dislike the web effect of the detail, as it is anatomically incorrect and distracting completely from the powerful impact of the gesture. I will change my rating as a show of support, but this really and truly made me think of a spiderman comic book.

    no apology required,
I was not really looking for a upgrade in the rating, but more for an enhancement of what needed to be improved.
that does not mean I will not take the upgrade however, (lol)! nothing wrong with Spiderman, he was one of my favorite comic books to read during my younger day.

thank you for becoming a fan, it is an honor.
    cheers!!

Nice, it's true that the lines are simple but the image created is very dynamic. This is a nice entry for the contest. The only thing I don't understand is if those are veins, bones or both, but I'm guessing it's both. However, I also do not understand what emotion the person has which is both a good thing and a bad thing.

Other than that, it is great. Good luck! :)
