Good Morning

This is a true hunter and his story is well told here. I don't see many of these but a few and I really like them

You have done well good with black and white on this one, The bird and the background are similar in color and texture but the bird stands out crisp and clear.

The expression is one of concentration and determination. I am confident he is going to get his prey.

Thank you! I prefer color but I had to change it for this contest. I love the challenge of the contest and it really makes me work hard to get a winner. It is a good learning tool! You should enter them too! That is all I do anymore. I only post pictures here for the contest.
I have another shot just after this with a small fish in his beak.

What a super shot Willie. I would never have thought this would work so well in black and white. You are a visionary. Looks like he already has some of his lunch in his beak. Very nicely done. Good luck!

Thank you so very much! What you see in his beak is his tongue!

Very nice. I am not much of a black and white type of guy but this really works. I love the dark grays and how it hides our friend. Great use of the blurred edges. The heron is dead on sharp. Well done and thanks for sharing.

Thank you so very much! I only use b&w because of the contest or if it don't look good in color which is rare!

I think you are just entering contests these days. I suppose you are tired of all the reviewing to promote new photos all the time. LOL I can fully understand why, because also I have to take a break now and again.

I think you have posted a fine photo for this contest and the little Heron is standing out really well against the background. The rock in the foreground is however a bit too bright in my opinion, and is a distraction. I think it takes too much interest away from the bird itself, and I find myself staring at it constantly.

Your photo is still nice and sharp showing clear and well defined details in the bird, and especially the shiny eye is captured well.Even if the foreground rock is bright, the exposure is very good.

I suppose you wanted the rock there to show that the bird was trying to hide when sneaking up on his lunch, but I think it takes too much of the space in this composition. This could of course bee because it is bright. Even if I have had a few comments, this is really a well taken shot with an excellent DOFF, and I wish you luck with the contest.

Thank you so very much! Yes the reviewing has become a joke! It is so time consuming and really for nothing. I love the competition of the contest but sometimes get frustrated with what it wins.
thank you for pointing out the rock. I used the burn tool to darken it. I am going to work on it. I will crop a little out and use layers to darken it. I love your reviews as you are honest and it is always good to get good pointers! Thank you!

You are more than welcome Willie. Some members would probably have been irritated with me giving them a lower rating than 5, and I appreciate that you don't. I think getting the rock a bit darker would have helped a lot.

I have made the changes I mentioned. Would you take another look and see if it will work? I really want to win this contest so give it a good look! Thanks!
reply by avmurray on 13-Aug-2013
This has changed the photo completely, and it is now perfect. My reason for taking half off has just disappeared, and I will go back and edit it.

Thank you so very much! I am glad you got to look at it and approve it! Now I can hold you responsible if it don't win!!! LOL!
reply by avmurray on 13-Aug-2013
LOL - I do hope you win then. Unless also I enter this contest.
