Very nice monochromatic image here. I like the angle of the composition and where you cropped it to focus on the subject. The loose detail and beautifully rendered highlights are great.

Ahhh I see you won the contest, congratulations.

It's the peek a boo look into the frame compositional style that makes this a strong presentation. We have the feeling this sight is going to fly away soon, yet it has been frozen by you for us to engage with.

Through your brush strokes you have accentuated the plumage and I know these birds are black but indeed the details of iridescent blues are present and rendered well by your hands and brush.

Especially nice is the flow of lines within the art. The directional placement of blue in the sky marries well with the flow shown in the feathers. This piece has a cohesiveness to in the way you handle, with confidence, your medium. The light catchment (which photographers try to catch) has been caught by you and we are indeed peering into the soul of this bird.

An image that is artistically cropped and framed, adherence to the KISS principle makes for a simple yet strong presentation.....and a winner!

What a great drawing. I love the blue background and the way it shows up in the bird's feathers as well. I like the positioning of the bird's head as well. Very nicely done.

So the birdbrained reference to them does not ring true.
In fact, one species collect only blue materials to buld a stage & later a nest after presenting his blue creation pmhis lady love!
An interesting initial impact. Nice impasto strokes & textures.
Harmonious colors. Excellent lighting, focusing & framing. Thanks for sharing.

You have really caught that intelligent look that magpies have when they are working something out. The colors are lovely and the background in blue makes the bird pop out the picture. Could you not have drawn two though as one is unlucky (lol)
