Hmm very interesting notes Fred. A good picture with good sharp (pardon the pun) focus, contrast and detail. Kind of gives one the shivers just thinking about it. Thanks for sharing.

Regards,
Robin.

I didn't realize the French were still using this method of execution in the 1970's Interesting and a gruesome machine but quite effective. Nice photo of it Fred and it brings to mind the French Revolution era when this was used on an almost daily basis. Interesting photo as I've never seen one before this close up. Thanks for sharing

    many thanks David; as you can imagine, it is certainly the most impressive for the spectators, but the death is MUCH less painful than the gas chamber or the electric chair

Wow, what a scary narrative, good info to make the mind wonder. A good angle, focus and frame to show this old machine that would scare me straight in a heart beat. Good work.

What horror. A very interesant shot, like the creepy notes, the unequivocal testimony of a doctor. Not nice view, but good shot.

    MANY THANKS MARA. JUST WANTED TO CHANGE FROM LANDSCAPES AND FLOWERS; AND AS YOUCAN IMAGINE, DEATH IN GAS CHAMBER OR ON ELECTRIC CHAIR WAS ORE GRUESOME

Fred,
a good picture of this very effective method of beheading used during & after the Revolution in France. I dread to imagine the blood that spurted out as the head was severed...It looks very clinical in your picture. Taken with superb camera techniques & sharp focus & sharp focus.

impact 5 color 5 lighting 5 technical 5 technique 5. The story is really gruesome. The brain ws still working although severed from the body how horrific is that. I was really shocked that the last time someone was beheaded was in 1977 I thought it would be 1800s at the latest. Great story to go with this killing machi ne

Charming image...excellently photographed...must be in a museum now.Although pretty gruesome but perhaps more efficient than lethal injection that may or may not work too well...either way..excellent image from a photographic point of view.Great lighting producing excellent highlights and reflections..the wood looks amazing.

    thanks a lot Julika; yes, in a museum, fortunately;
    certainly less gruesome than the gas chamber or electric chair used in the uS not so long away;
