Lovely! There are not many here who understand true macro photography. Your focus is sharp where it needs to be and soft where it needs to be.
Love the DOF!
This is a fine Macro shot of these first Spring buds!
Nice shooting!

Annie,
A wonderful shot of these new Chestnut leaf-buds bursting open on either side if the stem like a Butterfly. The soft blurred background making them stand out in three dimensions.
Artistic composition & beautiful soft lighting with superb camera techniques with sharp focus.
Susan

This is very simple but very attractive as well. Green color choice. Love the shallow depth of filed, makes the subject stand out very well. Good luck on the contest.

A really great entry. Surely, a fresh bud, represents Spring. Love the simplicity of the image. High five on concepts and substance, as well as technical skills, lighting and focus. Great framing and presentation using a clean background. Well captured.

love the simplicity in this capture, the buds are a lovely shape and you have captured the detail on them so well, like the muted background, does remind me spring is here, well done.

Absolutely beautiful representation of spring. You're right, the buds are just as beautiful as the blooms. How on earth did you get the buds to be in perfect focus and the rest blurry? Did you do this on the camera or with a filter?

Thank you so very much for the lovely review. First of all I used a macro lens when this photo was taken. The buds are after all very small. Then I used manual focus, and the camera set to A-DEP, which means that the camera is picking the best DOF. In this case this means that everything apart from what I focus on will be very soft.
