Good capture of this bird? Love the soft colours and detail. The eye really pops. Like the dark b/g and the textures in the branches. Good colour balance and well framed

This looks like a blue winged kookaburra, it can be difficult to catch them in Zoo's. Might be worth looking at the histogram for this image, as it looks like the highlights are a bit blown out, easily fixed in whatever software program you use. Just a suggestion, to maybe clone out the 2 sticks on the right side of the image, as they detract from the bird. The black background is good and works well. Cheers :-)

Mary,
A beautiful picture of this Kingfisher shaped Bird perched there with an eye on you it's iridescent blue feathers along the leading edge of it's wings are glowing in the sunlight & it's eye sparkles with life. The dark background making it stand out in three D. A beautiful composition & lighting with superb camera techniques with sharp focus.

A fun and cute view with the dark background. A tad over exposed on the bird but still tells your story of a cute little bird.

It would have been 5 but when you say it is taken in a zoo I can not understand the black background? surely there was a natural backdrop, the detail on the twigs and bird itself is very good, he is almost smiling at you, well lit image.

Thanks very much, the dof used created darker background which was a very dark fence anyhow. Cheers Mary

I have never been to Australia nor seen your wildlife other than in a zoo. I would guess that this is a young kookaburra. It sure has nice pastel coloring which stands out well against the dark background. Very nice composition. I like the catchlight in the eye.

Thanks Mike - had about 50% say kingfisher and 50% baby kookaburra but I had not seen kookaburra with this colouring so was unsure. :) Mary
