Mary you are wealth of information. Can't believe I live here and know so little. Love the green b/g and the texture in the stone ruins. Not much left of the Hotel. Like you vision of finding things. I would probably drive straight pass. Thanks for the history lesson

A neat shot as the remains of a chimney is a common sight for last remains of buildings. Good focus frame and exposure to show the stonework details.

It is certainly an enduring monument to a time that has passed. Very nice colors and details of the construction.

Mary, this is a historic photo and is well taken.
Are you working in a software yet? I do feel that had you popped this a bit more with contrast, brightened and highlighted it the image would be stronger, it does have a bit of a washed out feeling to it. Washed out maybe, but perhaps you wanted it this way and it is very wrong to deduct marks for an artist's interpretation of a subject, so I bow to your artistry and recognize that my suggestions are very subjective.
I feel that you need to clone out that branch sitting on the top of the structure and that bit protruding....BUT if you do not have software then that is impossible.

Interesting story, any idea what year this hotel was in operation and what happened to it?
It always seems to be the chimney that survives and is the last to go.
Lovely colours, (a bit of cloning out or repositioning of the camera to eliminate those leafless branches protruding around the chimney would enhance your image, and maybe a little brightening? Have a look and see what you think :-)

Thanks Kim, it was built around 1863 and was vital for supplies in its heyday but have no idea why it became a ruin. The town of Barmera is on the other side of the lake to the ruin so perhaps they decided that area was better place for settlement. Really need to do a course on editing as I have tried with Photoshop and failed - which is annoying when I have used so many different programs in the course of my work. Will try and get daughter to give me some pointers when she is here tomorrow and reload if I have any success.
