This rather elegant and proud member of the Black crowned crane family does indeed look like he (?) is wearing a "straw hat".which no doubt makes him attractive to other Black crowned cranes (go figure !)

This is indeed an impressive and good looking bird. Really a pity it wasn't set against a different background so that the "straw" on its head could have stood out even better. I do however appreciate that we cannot always choose the background when taking photos like this.
Your focus is spot on and sharp showing clear and well defined details in every part of the bird, and also the exposure is fine.
The photo is well cropped giving the bird room to move into, and I also like the tightness of it. I think it is an all together well taken photo and with a very good DOF. (Back from Greece, and ready for action. LOL)

Maybe camouflage? His headdress blends in with the dry grass. Nice touch. Super detail, love that eye! Very nice capture. Cheers, JR.

So exotic. Superb focus and angle, capturing that eye and the attractive head dress. I love those contrasting colors of dark black, white and pink. Nicely framed, and sharply taken.

What a stare!:) This is a beautiful shot of the bird. You have timed it well. The light, colour and the composition have worked well. Good effort!

I love the images of these birds which are posted. Haven't seen one over here in Australia. The headpiece is such a glittering gold colour contrasting against the red cheek and black head. Good focus.

Well now that is a hair day! For such a small head you would not figure it had such a wing span. But the "straw" really gives it dignity.
