Nice capture Mary. It is actually common for giraffes in captivity to lay Down or sit.
They have no predators at zoos. They will even sleep for a few hours lying down. They constantly need to adjust positions due to circulation.
In the wild, they rarely sit because they need to be on their feet to run from danger.
Nice capture of this family all huddled close.

a great and unusual capture: have been often on safaris in Africa but never seen giraffes resting or evening bowing their heads, except for drinking;

With those long legs it probably hard for them to get up and down from the ground. Neat shot of these giraffe's Mary. I always enjoy seeing them when we visit a zoo. Saw a three week old baby at the San Diego zoo about three years ago and it was one big baby at six feet tall. They look as if they don't have a care in the world and are very relaxed in their enclosure. Good photo!

A very pleasing scene as this family seems to be having quality time together. Good focus and frame as they pose for you. A colorful look.
