A good view on this one in motion. I have seen them in the Pacific Ocean off shore from Seattle. Good focus and frame with a good narrative. Well done Fred.

Neat photo of this whale Fred but I don't believe its a Humpback. they don't have a tall dorsal fin like this guy has and the color pattern looks like more like a killer whale. I'm no whale expert but have seen humpbacks up close and they don't look like this one. Still a neat shot of a whale and a real treat to have been able to get so close to one. Thanks for sharing this neat photo.

    thanks a lot; yes, it is an orca

Hmmm... not much contrast in this photograph... and may have left more room in the frame for the whale to "swim into."

Nice focus. Love the bit of splash.

I don't know much more about whales than one might learn watching TV, but I would have guessed that this was an orca. A great shot showing the splash of the breaching whale and the upright dorsal fin. Nice natural color palette and excellent cropping.

    maybe you're right, because of the white; both species were present

Fred,
A great top action picture of the Humpback wale diving after breaching the surface
creating a wave while doing so it's triangular dorsal fin visible from some distance. Beautiful composition, framing & lighting with superb camera techniques with sharp focus.

Fantastic capture! So hard to get a good shot of these because people are usually in moving boats when they see them. the focus is good and so is the exposure. really great job on this.

A true WOW capture and a blessing to see them playing for you so close - they know to whom show up - excellent snap shot, I love the kind like wave he is creating looking like jumping into a pond - stunning wild life shot, handsome close up , super focus and exposure, your image is clear and sharp as always, contrast and lighting reflect perfectly the natural colors and the ambiance - excellent composition , well framed

A dream shot of these creatures, thanks for sharing

Interesting catch of an elusive animal. Would be nice if we could get the whole guy at once. I do wish there was a little more contrast. I don't think the light helped you out much. Does show a fast trigger finger, an absolute necessity in photography. Good work. Cheers, James.

    many thanks again;
    to see the whole animal, 3 possibilities:
    -in an aquarium
    -ask him to fly
    -dive with a waterproof camera, but: the water temperature is just above freezing, and apparently it isn't a humpback whale but an orca: a killer whale!
