Elvis, has always been a long time hero of mine, and this rendering reminds me of just how beautiful he was. He wasn't just a pretty face, he was enormously talented, as well. And just as the girls loved him, the guys loved him, as well. Both in a different way, but loved him all the same. Now, let's get to the photograph, I do not know about what used to create this masterpiece, but what ever it was, it did it's job in bring back the allure that was Elvis Presley.

You know Michael, that is what art is all about, bringing happiness to the people who view it and the people who create it. To receive your beautiful review makes my day.

When it's that good, what else can be said?

Dear Linda - in spite of never having been a rabid Elvis fan, this utterly magnificent portray of him when he was in his prime is just superb, You have an outstanding gift, I'm speechless, perhaps your best work of Art thus far. Kudos!

Thank you Jesuel. A fellow artist commented that the ear was too bright. I think he may be right.

Great sense of depth and dimension. The eyes are very expressive. The image is very lifelike while still being very identifiable as a drawing.

Comment from Lucien van Oosten

Hello,

My review/critique of your work will be broken down into two parts; the technical and the esthetics aspects of the work. Each aspect will carry the same amount of weight in rating the piece presented. A piece will not be awarded a 5 rating if it has a flaw in either category or in the case of a contest entry fails to meet the contest requirements.

Technical: the only area where I think the drawing could be improved is the transition of the hair into the negative space. To me the hair their as you move towards the right side edge and to the top edge, needs some more textures. Some more lines that depict the hair, a layering there of the tones from lighter the darker would have made it a more complete image to me. Your command of the media is really well represented within this drawing, but I think U can do better in the area noted.
I am also thinking that the ear needs just a tad more coloring so it does not stand out quite so much with the high lights there.

Aesthetics: I think that the angle and the capture and the eyes are all spot on. Doing the drawing in sepia tones adds an earthiness and a realness to the youthful face that is very appealing visually.

Thank U for having allowed me to look & review your work.

Well, Mr van Oosten, that is a very thorough breakdown of a piece of art. I don't believe I have ever received 4 1/2 stars. But it is good. Amazing review. Thank you.

A very youthful and vulnerable looking Elvis. Very nice result with your drawing. Very nice tonal qualities and shading make this a very nice rendering. Always enjoy your work!

Love the innocence of the eyes. Evidently very in the start, with this air of guy modest that worked hard for help support the house. You captured a more time not only the physical aspect, if not also the personality. Well done

What a great drawing of a very young Elvis. Wonderful close up and great attention to details. This almost looks like a black and white photo, only better. Good interplay of light and shadow. Great initial impact. Well done. ~Alveria
