H.C.Andersen's tale entered my mind the moment I saw the drawing even before reading the comments. The drawing is very emotional. It speaks immediately to the mind of the viewer. We see not much of the snow and the cold city. There is just the hint of a few snowflakes, but for me this drawing shows the freezing cold I how the child tries to draw those rags close around her and how she looks longingly at the match for warmed. The strong dark light contrast seems to intensify the sadness of the child and the tragic of the situation. The attention to detail in this drawing is outstanding. There is no fault at all. This drawing looks like a winner to me. Best luck!

I think everybody knows the story about the little Matchstick girl. Such a sad story. Your drawing is lovely as ever, but you know me, I always have some comments. This time it is about the blouse and the hand holding the match. I think they are a bit bright, and don't have the same fine details and contrasts as you see in the rest of the drawing. I also feel that you could have done with a bit more negative space at the top.

Still this is done with really good attention to details, and I especially like the snow flakes you have added. I also think you have brought out really great textures in the rest of the outfit, the hair and the background.

All together a truly lovely and well crafted drawing, and I wish you luck with the contest.

Thank you for your review. I guess there will always be pieces of our work that we just can't get right. It is frustrating, but inevitable.

Absolutely brilliant piece of artwork. The lack of use of colour gives the piece the "old" feeling and the feeling of poverty and slight desperation of the child. I love it.

What a poignant drawing of an unfortunate child, the drawing clearly shows her resignation that her destiny was not going to be a good one. What a sad story you have told except that she was rescued by an Angel. With your artist notes, along with the excellence of the drawing, I think this will be an outstanding entry in the cold contest.

What a sad story and how you have captured it in this drawing is so heart felt. The tech's are nothing short of perfect as is every thing else about this pencil drawing. she looks so sad and cold. Love the details in her beautiful flowing hair, contrast are perfect and I have a pretty good idea who the artist is, one of my favorites. Good luck in the contest, you have my vote.

Ah, such a sad story this is. The little girl is absolutely beautiful. The details of her and the emotion on her face says it all. What better picture and story to go together. I am sure her angel brought her right to the lap of Jesus, to be held and comforted. What a great next picture that would be, just a hint. :)

I have never heard the story.. I do however really like your drawing. It has great details and I love the sad look in the little girls face. With the little bit of snow/frost falling on and around her you can see that she is cold and would like to just go home. Thanks for sharing and good luck in the contest.
