nice capture of the boat, but the photo focus is very soft and this takes from the initial impact

nice composition and presentation

Oh well I won't whinge about ours then sounds dreadful. Went to kite festival on Sunday where I took this shot. Hoping to get to Mt Lofty tomorrow for some autumn colours. :)

Beautiful. It's more the emotion that this image evokes... serene and calm. Yet powerful and strong. Great eye for composition. Love the little dingy thingy - puts everything in perspective. The colors are fantastic, focus solid, detail sharp and exposure great. Thanks for sharing.

Wow, what a neat ship and it sure looks like great fun to see and dream about the days of sailing in the 1800's. A wonderful experience for your son for sure. Like the silhouetted look against the sky, a highlight on the sails, focused and framed. Good one.

A great picture of the Tall Ship in full sail with the young Cadets on board standing in pairs perched high in the rigging as part of the training excursion. Beautiful composition, framing & background of blue sky on a clear day. Taken with superb camera techniques with sharp focus.

It's not often you get to see one of these. Very nice setting, both foreground and background as well as excellent details in the rigging. I am not so sure I would have included the dory (?) in the lower right.

Thanks Mike I appreciate your positive feedback, I ummed and ahhd about cropping the little fishing boat but thought it gave a perspective of size against the sailing ship. :) Mary

Good capture. The horizontal line of the water conveys a calm sea and the diagonal of the life boat, which leads the eye to the ship conveys action. You are given a sense of scale from the size of the life boat compared to the ship. There is nice light from the sun on the sails and sparkling water, and a sense of story. They could be sailing off into the sunset for a great adventure.
