Linda, what another awesome drawing you have done. I have always admired the detail you put into your drawings, you make them come to life. I love the way you captured the light and shadows falling on your granddaughter, you can tell she was sitting near a window. And the detail you did on the pattern of her dress is beyond words. It is all exceptional!. Thanks for sharing.

Dearest B. Wow, you know art. You know the truth of what you see. Yes she is sitting beneath a window, and the sun was shining down upon her. I took this picture. That is what makes this a complete work. You can feel, and sense what the artist is trying to project in each work. Thank you.

So very precious. Thank you for your artist notes. We have 5 granddaughters and 3 grandsons. I have 'sketched' all of them...some better than others. Our oldest is graduating from high school this weekend. And our youngest spends every day with us, from 7:00 AM until her parents come to get her. I need to begin again on my portraits. I love your composition and framing. So very beautiful and full of the character of the beautiful child. Congratulations on this one!!! Sincerely, NR

Well, Sandy. My dad talked about his Welsh heritage. He was very dark. Skin tone, and curly hair. Thank you for bringing that into the forefront.

I just knew he had Welsh genes with his name

My first thought was that this would compositionaly be a super start to an abstract (I always squint at the works first!), superb tonal gradation, with a slight sepia tint surrounding Esme which softens the look. Excellent lighting, dramatic with the dark diagonals (a staircase perhaps?) with an ever so light bluish tint which works well with the sepia. Technique resembling graphite washes especially on the hair although the graphite uploads are sometimes touchy I think! Normally never out of 6's at this point, but alas, none to give this lovely little lady! jean

Wow, Jean, your technical expertise is amazing. The diagonals were actually the shadows from the window. She was sitting on a couch. You have a very keen eye. Thank you for your most uplifting review. I appreciate it, because you are so wonderful. God bless.

I can see why she holds your heart, grandchildren do that!. It is a lovely drawing with great attention to detail. The face, angles, hair, thumb sucking and OH THE DRESS!!. One question is the shading across her back and down her arm? Window bar? The drawing is superb but that line is distracting, if it is from the shadow of a window behind her it is appropriate. If I had a suggestion it would be to make that lighter of just hint at it. She sure is a beauty, I am doing the same with my granddaughters. Not proud are we?

It is a window bar. Thank you for your suggestions. I took the photo, and the shadows were what I so liked. That is why I drew it just the way I saw it.

Hi dear friend. I think that you mentioned to me that you would like me to draw your dog. I would so very much like to do that. Please let me know. Thank you for your wonderful review.

    Hi Linda

I had your drawings redone in custom frames with museum glass and acid free matting and showing your signature. They look great and hang on my bedroom wall. Enjoy them so much and very happy I was able to get them. Sorry I haven't got around to the dog pictures so will try to get that done in next couple weeks. However I have been thinking it would be neat if you could take my cold contest entry "Freezing Cold" of Laika as a cold puppy sitting in the lap of the "Matchstick girl" with a tear in her eye looking down at the dog. Let me know what you think of that and what it might cost. Thanks for your consideration.

Just another thought, the drawing I described could be submitted to Fanstory and have them write a story about the drawing.

    omg, sounds beautiful, but scary.
reply by GreatDogPhotos on 24-May-2015
OK if you think you can pull it off go for it. As far as a background, most of your stuff is black, but if you can think of anything to add to the "cold feel" like snow, feel free. If you send me your email, I can send you the other shot I was thinking about having you do and you could choose between the 2 ideas or do both. Have a good day. Jim

Someone once said 'I know nothing about art but I know what I like' Very true. This is so realistic that I thought at first it WAS a photo. I love the detail on her face and hair. Well done. (ps. I could never get the hang of oils)

WOW!!! You have one God given talent!!!. I had to look twice I thought it was a photograph. You definitely got your father's artistic ability the details on her outfit is so amazing I like the details of her hair. She is very adorable I can see why you drew this. The black and white tones in the picture gives this a vintage look which I think is good. The shadowing you did really brings out your focal point in this. Very great job, Keep on the path of this your very good!! Have a blessed day and thank you for sharing..God Bless, 1940's
