Aw, so adorable, grandchildren are the best! I am sure this is a special drawing for you and your family-wonderful light pouring in from the upper right, and oh-so-natural pose with excellent tonal contrasts throughout! I like the simple dress without detail other than folds in the soft fabric and hints of lace-a nice contrast with the dark sofa cushions! Lovely! jean

Okay, this is a really great drawing. Like, I cannot comment enough on how great this drawing is. How you did most of this, I have no idea. So lets talk about composition and subject. For some reason, it doesn't draw me in. For some reason, I'm more interested in her cheeks and her left hand than anything else. I wish I knew why. I mean, I understand that the proportions are weird because her left hand is closer to the viewer but I don't think that is it. I want to understand because I don't know what draws a viewer into the art and makes their eye move around the canvas. And every viewer sees different things. So I'm trying to give constructive criticism here. I love just about everything about this and I'm in awe that it's a pencil drawing because I have such a hard time with the drawing part of my paintings. I feel like once I get passed the drawing part of my painting, the initial rendering, it's all down hill from there. I love her dress, her hair, her eyes, her chubbiness, and her right hand with the way she's shoving it into her mouth while thinking about something else. I wonder what she's eating and where she is. But the left hand looks like it was cut out and added to the top of the drawing.

Well, Mr Redden, first of all, I want to welcome you to FanArt. It is great to get new blood. Secondly, I want to thank you for your very in-depth review of this drawing. You took a great deal of time to describe your thoughts and feelings. That is what art is all about, to cause people to think. You are right about the left hand. It was bugging me too. So after reading your review, I sat down and worked on the hand some more. It isn't perfect, but I am happier with it. Thank you for your honesty.

Hi Linda,

Oh, for a six which I sadly lack. This is a pencil drawing like no other when you consider the depth you have portrayed in this image. The white patch in the top right corner is also excellent and gives this an ethereal essence. Thanks for sharing this and good luck in the contest. R
