Megabats!
What utterly fascinating animals these are,Mary!
And your photographic capture of this Colony of them resting in the tree branches is an OUTSTANDING picture in my opinion! : D

What a neat shot, looks like the tree is decorated with your little friends. A silhouetted look, good frame and focus as they all posed so well for you. It would be good to see a really close up some time.

Thanks George, hope to go back on a better day and get some more - the tree is over a small creek so difficult to get close. Do you know if a teleconverter would work on a 55-300 lens was thinking about hiring one to try so it gives me more range. :) Mary

I do not know for sure, so many of these converters are for only specific lenses. You would have to check with the manufacturer specifications that usually tell you if they do or do not. I would like to find one for my 70-300mm lens but not yet found it. George

This takes me back to when my daughter was married in the Botanical Gardens in Cairns. We all went out one evening to see the amazing flying foxes as they set off on their nightly prowl. Spectacular sight. I like the angle you used for this shot showing the bats clustered on the tree branches.

Lighting and focus very good. Very nice composition. Suzanne

Thanks Suzanne, appreciate your feedback. We are hoping to take a road trip to Cairns next winter as I have just recovered from cancer treatment and should be able to travel further distances in the new year. :) Mary

Fantastic! I wouldn't have been able to stop at this scene long enough to take this shot. I'd be afraid they'd attack LOL.
Fantastic even with the lighting as you pointed out.

Wow thanks so much for your positive feedback and high rating. There are lots of warning signs to stay clear as they carry diseases is you come into contact with their faeces so used telephoto lens. :) Mary

good you wrote those are bats, since they look like some fruit hanging from the branch

the bright and gray sky is really a distraction, so I took half a star off

thanks for sharing

Thanks galiag, I haven't worked out how to change background post editing but may try and go back on a better day as lighting was not good. Just found it amazing how many were hanging in tree ☺ Mary
