I believe these are harlequin cabbage bugs. What they are doing on this fence is a mystery. The colors are excellent and I like the composition though you must not have been parallel to the fence judging by the way the focus goes out at the top and bottom.

Supergold I'm an oldey but goody LOL. Spinach was Popeye's vitamin of strength for his power muscles to put Bruttis in his place. My hero! Excellent story and center of impact. Must do something for them. I wouldn't want to stand in their way! Very nice creativity of presentation! Good colors!

Fred,
A beautiful picture of the Red Bugs swarming over wire fence looking for "Love" or some thing nourishing? They look similar to beetles I found when I was last in St Quentin la Poterie . I just spent ten minutes looking it up I think they maybe Corizus hyoscyami / Scentless plant bugs. Beautiful composition, framing & lighting with superb camera techniques with sharp focus.
Spinach contains iron OK but it's difficult for humans to absorb the iron from Spinach. For us a Steak is better!

They are really beautiful creatures. It is strange why they have chosen that spot maybe something was spilt on it to attract them.. They all have different markings on them which makes them quite unique.

You have a strange sense of humor as do I. I do believe I will take the spinach however. I do wonder what in the world they like about the iron. Maybe it's warm??? Excellent and most unusual shot of the month. Of course all the technical elements are perfect.

it was rather cloudy; the fence was no warmer or colder than the ambient air

Loll - you are right, there might be one mineral that is even better than spinach and only they can see and find...
the capture is excellent and of course you managed it again to fins an extraordinary scene in nature - the interesting point is that the bug on the top hare smaller and have a smaller design might be younger and therefore they only get the border of what is so tasty while the bigger ones and older ones are in full center
your shot is well framed for your story you tell, excellent in camera settings, clear and sharp and as this is an informative shot it does not need a harmonious environment, well seen, well done, thanks for sharing

Well, they certainly are colorful. You took a nice closeup of most unusual subjects. I like the close cropping so your eye is drawn directly to the bugs. One can only wonder what is the big attraction for them here. Nice photo

Comment from Life is but a dream.
They might be called 'face of man' bugs because if you look on their backs it looks like a face. I found them in Nepal as well as Malaysia where I got the name.
Some are sharp, some are not...sounds like some people I know.
