Have not had time for very much reviewing lately Cleo, but I had to review this one. The butterfly is quite realistic, while the background is more abstract. I especially like the greens With the Purple Flowers and the fine textures because it is a Perfect background to the yellow and Orange butterfly.
It is a fine flow in the brush work and it is such fine details to be seen in the butterfly. Good use of high lights as well.
The format and framing is very good and the butterfly has got a fine placement a bit off to the right. A truly lovely and well done digital painting.

This is stunning, Cleo. So glad to review so many of your posts I missed in the past. The monarch is just so life like and the background is blurred perfectly just like in a macro photograph. I can see why it won the contest. Ed.

I like the impressionistic feel of this piece of artwork. Where colors and lighting create the flow of the composition. The cool colors in the negative space helps pushes the butterfly towards the observer.
The one area where you could improve it would be the black edge on the upper part of wing; it needs to not be a broken line. It is missing the antenna.
I think you did what you intended or set out to do, "The painting is contemporary with an influence of impressionism."
Thank you for allowing me to review your work it is defiantly a 5, and could be a 6 with some slight improvements, as a couple are noted above.

Thank you very much, Lucien, I did start out with the wing even more thorn because I did not want an ideal but a natural. Unfortunately, that looked as if the piece were unfinished. So I just added some smaller tearing. I see, that did not work out either. It seem I have to make that one an ideal. I can't do it right now. My programs still do not work. This is a again re-post of an old piece. I will attend to the issue when I made the program work on this cursed laptop.

There is no question why this was a contest winner Cleo. This looks like a stylized painting with just the right amount of brush strokes that it takes on an almost magical look and feel.
