I love this.I lived in Arkansas for a while, hoped to get stay, but couldn't as the Brits are committing crimes on us, and ''they are our allies'' Passing through the centre of our town Conway, was a railway line, several times a day and night a long train would pass through. I would stand at the side watching, it always brought tears to my eyes, to me it epitomised America, with the star and stripes flying. Some one commented that my type made the most loyal American citizens, maybe that is why I was crying, because deep down I knew I was going to have to leave, the solicitor said- don't waste your time, you have no papers, do you know what the USA is like. Since one year old I had been shipped out on trains- I loved that railway line through Conway!!

A superb image that really caught my eye. The POV is fabulous and the detail spot on. The monotone works well too. Great composition here also.

A very interesting and absorbing photo, and the sepia tones work very well here. You were probably uncomfortable on the ground. It was worth it---for my pleasure anyway! The shadows on the rails add interest and the trees keep my eyes on the track. Congratulations and good luck in the contest.

Wish I were not out of sixes. A cyber 6 to you!! Love the sepia tone that you used on this piece. What a great story behind the piece too. I can just picture one of those hobos jumping onto one of these trains that traveled along these tracks. Great framing and very nice eye appeal.
Thank you so much for sharing,

Like the sepia effect of the image and the point of view you have taken the railway track from. Great composition, focus and dof. Nicely done.

Love the perspective of your photo.
I think you did a wonderful job in the conversion to B/W Sepia tones. Good luck in the contest.

Focus is wonderful

Love this low to the ground perspective. Gives the shot enormous character. The off center placement of the tracks is equally spot on and adds to the perspective and the vanishing point effect. The sepia is such a good choice to me since it lets the perspective shine over any colors. Well chosen of the contest. Good luck.

A very hard time in our history. I think that the black and white conversion makes this photograph. Excellent focus and depth. Great post processing. Good luck in the contest and thank you for sharing.

Thank you. Yes it was a very hard time. My grandmother was left to raise 3 children during that time after my grandfather was killed in a coal mine accident here in NE Pennsylvania.

Beautiful. Simply beautiful. With its Sepia look the autumn trees lining the tracks complement each other quite nicely. These kind of photographs are on my top favorite list. I just cannot get over how you knew this would do great in Sepia. Did you just try it and it worked. Did you try many other photos first, one after another until you were testing this one out and once you made it Sepia you told yourself "This one is it!"? Or did you just know that the leaves and train tracks already near that color range would look awesome in Sepia? You did an excellent job.
Thanks so much for sharing.

Thank you. Actually I had several photos I tried with sepia for this contest. I don't think you can tell ahead of time that a particular photo will look good done in a particular style. At least I can't. I really have to admit that I do a lot of trial and error with different effects on photos until I settle on one that fits the photo. I guess that is the scientist in me. :)

    Your welcome.

I have to do the same thing too. Sometimes it takes me forever to find the right one and other times, I make the right selection first time around...I will join you on the scientist side (smile).
