Who does not like orangutans? They are such natural clown's! You captured the fun feel and nature of this gal, and I like that she is engaged in looking at her lunch. I do find the blow out to be a bit harsh, both behind her, and on her right hand, it has stolen detail from her fur and created a "hot" spot. Sometimes, if you use a polorizing filter, it can help with this sort of thing. I do like the rich sunkissed color of her fur, and you got amazing detail in the boads she is on.

Lovely capture of the beautiful Karta - such a sad story but hopefully she will be happier now. I love the expression you caught on her face. She looks almost like a soft toy. Lighting and focus very good showing excellent clarity. Very nice composition. Suzanne

All the large simians have outstanding facial features and this is one I rarely see. I strongly recommend avoiding bright sunlight if you are going for a head shot. This has nice colors and good cropping although I would like to shoot it with a little more lens so that you could avoid showing the trappings of captivity.

    Thanks Mike for your constructive feedback. She is a character, I have seen her come up to the glass section of her area and virtually talk to a toddler the other side - didn't have much time to observe her this day as was with the young grandsons. :) Mary

What I like about this is you have captured that almost cheeky look about the orangatan,good portrait,only thing that takes away slightly is that white post/wall behind and maybe the eyes could be a bit more prominent if possible,but other than that nice shot...brian

a great close up of our sister eating some vegetables; my prefered monkey, always very kind, funny and so human;
orangutan means: "man of the forest";
