A fine shot ME, well focused and composed. Pelicans are very photogenic, and f your foreground subject is no exception....you were lucky to et this close, or where you using a long lens? First rate POV and nice crisp focus to capture the subject's detail. Well done.

Thanks Terry, they seemed quite used to people as they were on the River Murray wharf where a large paddle steamer leaves from, went back couple of months ago and not a pelican in sight which was strange.

If there is water in the Lake Eyre system they will bugger off to this area to breed. I dont know how they know when the lakes have water, but my wife and I were there in 2012, when there was plenty of water and zillions of pelicans (and black swans) all making babies.

A great pelican portrait. The composition is excellent and the colors are very nice. The detail in the eye and plumage is outstanding and the second pelican is perfectly placed in the scene.

It's a really good looking picture,Mary!
Pelicans are interesting marine birds that have a kind of 'pterosaurian' aspect about them that I ( being a person who's fascinated with Paleontology! ) find very enjoyable!

Hi Maryliz,

Why, this is a magnificent image of the pelicans highlighting the perspective distance between them too. Very well captured and thanks for sharing ! R

OMG! This looks like a giant pelican from the angle of the picture! Nice shot! You have framed it well. The light, colour and the composition have worked well. Good effort!

Thanks Dick, appreciate your positive comments. I like contests but hard work reviewing to get enough $ to enter then promote work. I am on ViewBug site and sometimes enter the Challenges there as it doesn't cost any money.

Thanks Paul, love pelicans they are interesting to watch and photograph but wouldn't want to get too close to the sharp bit on the end of that monstrous size beak :) Mary
